Saulgé Property Listings and Info

For buying and selling property in Saulgé

Saulgé is a rural idyll

Saulgé is a small, rural town that lies in the Vienne department of Poitou-Charentes. Close to the larger town of Montmorillon, Saulgé is a haven of calm and is surrounded by a beautiful countryside that supports several rare and listed types of flora and fauna.

Visit Saulgé's castles, church and museum

Saulgé was once a centre of the beer brewing industry, but this closed part way through the 20th century. It's still possible to see the old brewery buildings. There are other buildings of note too, including the 13th century Castle Beaupuy, Castle Lenest and the Church of Saulgé. One of Saulgé's most interesting places to visit is the Living Museum of Juillé, which traces rural life in the area and fascinates young and old alike. When it comes to shopping and dining, Montmorillon is just along the road. This gorgeous old town offers plenty of choice of shops, bars and restaurants in addition to monuments and gardens.

Enjoy outdoor activities

If you enjoy outdoor activities, you'll love Saulgé. The River Gartempe, on which the town lies, offers fishing, kayaking and rafting. There's a good equestrian centre nearby, and the countryside is tranquil and perfect for hacking, or for walking should you prefer "Shanks's pony" to the four legged variety. Then there's cycling, an archery centre, tennis and mini golf all available locally.

Explore theme parks and historic towns near Saulgé

With Montmorillon just a hop away, you'll have a lovely place to visit right on the doorstep if you're based in Saulgé. Then there's Poitiers, with the great theme park Futuroscope, a delightful Monkey Park at Romange, and the market town of Les Herolles, where a really old style and enormous agricultural market takes place every month.

How to get there

You can fly to Poitiers or Limoges, direct from the UK. Both cities also have TGV stations for fast, efficient rail travel, should you prefer. If you're driving, you'll find Saulgé near to the N147 non toll motorway, on the D5/D116.
