For buying and selling property in Vouillé
The small market town of Vouillé in Poitou-Charentes is proud of its history which extends way back to the times of the Visigoths. Today, Vouillé is a thriving little place with a weekly market, numerous shops and a very attractive aspect. It's a town labelled by the French Tourist Office as both a "town of flowers" and a "green resort". Vouillé lies on the banks of the River Clain.
There's plenty of history to trace in and around Vouillé. The famous Battle of Vouillé was fought there in 507AD, when the Frankish king, Clovis 1st beat the Visigoths. The area around the town is rich in heritage which includes a 16th century chateau, a bridge built for Henry IV, a Roman road and many traditional Charantaise houses.
Market day in Vouillé is Saturday, and there are few better things to do on a Saturday morning than browse the stalls of a traditional French market. The region produces the acclaimed drinks of Cognac and Pineau, and these can be bought and tasted at the market along with other local specialities like the Farcie Poitevin, an unusual but tasty green pâté. Vouillé has plenty of small shops and a supermarket too, so shopping is easy for residents. Bars and restaurants can also be found in town.
Vouillé's setting in the Vienne department also allows easy access to the capital city of Poitiers. Poitiers not only has great transport links, with a TGV station and an international airport, but is also a fascinating city to visit. There's an historic quarter, excellent shopping and dining and the theme park of Futuroscope to enjoy.
Once you have explored the capital and all it has to offer, you will still find lots to do and see near to Vouillé. Montmorillon, the town of books, is always fun to visit, while the market town of Civray is worth seeing for its very impressive Romanesque Church of Saint Nicholas.
The countryside offers endless opportunities to enjoy various sports and leisure activities. Within easy reach of Vouillé you'll find golf courses, horse-riding stables, lakes and rivers where you can swim, fish or sail, and stunning country walks. Cyclists love the area too, and can be seen as bright flashes of colour all over the department in the summer months.
Both planes and trains will take you to Poitiers with ease from the UK. Poitiers airport is served by Ryanair. If you are driving, and it is really necessary to have a car to make the best of the region, you can find Vouillé very near to the N149 non toll motorway.
Property in the Vienne department can often be found at low or at least very reasonable prices. This is in spite of increasing popularity. Try finding a pretty stone built farmhouse with an orchard and space for a swimming pool (like the one we have currently listed near Vouillé) in the UK for the price of 268,450 Euros (or £224, 532)!
